About Us
It was founded under the name Vista Publications in the fall of 1997 as a vehicle to publish Amanda Lumry's first book Nantucket Borders. Laura Hurwitz, a 1977 graduate of Yale University with a B.A. in English, collaborated with Amanda on the text. They followed this initial success, by teaming up once again to create Mala Mala: Pathway to an African Eden. This project was part of Amanda Lumry's senior thesis in photography for the Visual Environmental Studies department at Harvard University. During their research trip in South Africa, Amanda also met and collaborated with Jamie Thom, a South African game ranger and photographer for this project. In 1999 Loren Wengerd, who graduated from Yale University in 2001 with a BA in Music, began working as an additional photographer for the company. Amanda, Laura, and Loren published Cayman: a Photographic Journey through the Islands in 2000. Vista underwent a name change in the fall of 2001 to Eaglemont Press. The first book with the Eaglemont Press imprint was Holmespun: An Intimate Portrait of an Amish and Mennonite Community, which was launched on September 1, 2002. |
